Valentines Day

Well today is valentines day, the day loathed by singles all over the world I’m sure. Instead of trying to decide if being single is a good thing or not I’m going to try a different valentines day approach. The day is all about love, but why should that love be narrowed down and only directed at the person your "dating, seeing," etc? Love can be anything. Unconditional like that you will have for family. Love for friends - the worlds way of saying sorry for your family =p.

The people who make you smile and laugh so hard your checks hurt and you think you might pass out. The people who are always there to listen and to guide. The people who will always surprise you by doing great things when you least expect it. Who always seem to know just what to say just when it really matters. The ones who will remind you of the good times when you’re low and who assist you in shopping. The people who tumble into your life and you have no idea how they came to be such a integral part of your day but your glad they fell into place.

The love for random things, the things that truly make you, you. In my case the love of chocolate cake and pears. The love of when you find a new website like myaveragelife or post secret. The sites where whole online communities happen and give you hope that out there there are other people like you. The posts that make you smile with joy or want to make you weep but also to get out there and help the people affected by tragedy or lose. The smile that happens when you get a text from someone you care about. The odd sense of achievement when you get a letter or an Amazon delivery. The love of coming home from work and feeling like you’ve achieved something that day. The sheer amazement when a craft project goes right. The appeal of a warm and comfy bed after a hard day. The pictures that take your breathe away.

These are the things that I love and I will not spend my day focusing on what I am supposedly "lacking" by not having a man in my life. One day there will be someone and on that day the cake might need to move over in my heart and make space for him but right now my heart is full.

Happy New Year

Hazel
