Language

Ever had the urge to write but not had the wors?
Or know you have to write but not known what to say, 2000 word essay anyone?

Its amazing that 26 symbopls (at least in the english language) can be used to express anything our soul desires.

Who decided on the shape of the symbols that millions, billions of people recognise?

Who decided what they should sound like ?

Why they sound different in other languages even though they are still written the same way ?

Other languages can look like art, chinease for example or ancient egyptian - when your letters are fish and birds how do you pronounce them ?

Gone are the days when writting and reading were for the provealedge few. Everyone in Britain has the opertunity to learn, an oppertunity that many take for granted. Across the country literacy rates are falling yet in other countried children walk miles every day to cram themselves into over filled class rooms with the hope that an education can change their lives.

I do not understand how a person can't enjoy cuddling up in bed or lying in the sun with a good book. By not being able to read people are depriving themselves of the chance of a life time.
- To walk through a closet and end up in Narnia.
- To recieve that letter written with the emerald green writing inviting you to study at Hogwarts.
- To feel the butterflies as Romeo swears his undying love for Juliet.

Yes i know theyre all films but an hour and a half of CGI does not make up for a rainy afternoon on the couch with chocolate and a well worn, bent pages, crinkley spined book.



I know its ironic that the post all about literacy probably contains the most spelling mistakes to date. I like writing but my spelling will always leave something to be desired.
